Chantal Coady, the founder of Rococo, first opened her shop in Kings Road twenty five years ago, in 1983. Her passion for chocolate lured her away from textile design, in which she graduated, and gave her the idea for the business. However, her flair for design was not lost and can be seen in the in the packaging, the shop and indeed in the use of unusual ingredients in the chocolates themselves. There are many words that can describe Rococo: irresistible, tempting, scrumptious, delicious, natural, mouth-watering, artisan and Gold Award winning. They are all true, but only half the story. Coady is known standing on the chocolate “soapbox” and fighting the corner of fine chocolate in a country which has been dominated by industrially prodiuced, sugar filled confectionery. Recently awarded “Lifetime achievement award” by the Academy of Chocolate for “Changing the way people think about chocolate”.
With the new shop at Motcomb St, Coady has realised her dream of having a Chocolate House, where you can drink hot chocolate, and make your own chocolate at the School, as well as the beautiful MaRoCoCo courtyard garden at the back.
Rococo produces a selection of seasonal fresh truffles from the Motcomb St store.
Coady’s approach to chocolate is eclectic, eccentric, sensual and feminine in a world of macho chocolates. She believes that: “chocolate should be honest and not pompous” and the way Rococo leads the way offering new and surprising combinations to titillate the senses echoes that belief.
